Chairity

Chairity is the television report of a journalist obsessed with a avior complex, who wants to draw attention to the suffering of her protagonists. With all filmic means she tries to artificially create drama and to frame her interview partners as pitiful victims. But latest in the interviews her clichéd ideas collide with reality. In a hybrid of stop motion and live-action film, the mockumentary reportage cleverly plays with the style of television magazines. With a lot of humour and self-irony, the film criticizes well-intentioned but poorly made journalism.

Jeremias Leo Valentin Brunner, Silvan Marty

Jeremias Brunner is himself a journalist and filmmaker. He knows all too well the temptation to fall back on familiar narratives and frames - they make everything so easy to understand! In his films ("Ghana Through a German Lens", GH, 2019) and academic works ("Framing Africa?", award for outstanding achievements from the University of Mainz), he critically examines the images and stereotypes that media makers often reproduce. Silvan Marty was born on November 9, 1997 in Kreuzlingen, Switzerland and grew up with his parents and his sister Jennifer Marty in the Engel restaurant as part of a family of restaurateurs.
