In April 1944, during the Nazi Occupation of Greece, the village of Pyrgoi was the scene of one of the country’s deadliest massacres. Over 300 civilians — men, women, children, and the elderly — were executed by German troops and local collaborators. The village was burned to the ground. This documentary gives voice to survivors and descendants of the victims. Through testimonies and present-day images, it reflects on trauma, silence, and the long shadow of history.

Dimitris Argyriou

Dimitris Argyriou graduated from Audio Visual Arts dept. at the Ionian University (Master of Arts) and at Berlin University of Arts (Universität der Künste Berlin, UDK-Berlin). As a director, Dimitris Argyriou has participated in Berlinale Talents, Sarajevo Talents and the Talent Development Campus of the Cork Film Festival among others, he was often selected as a resident artist and was involved in the conception of many film programs . Dimitris Argyriou made 10 short films that have won more than 100 awards and have been shown at more than 1,000 international film festivals. "Lights Out, Berlin!", his directorial debut in feature documentary form had a limited distribution in Germany. "Memories of Occupation & Dialogue for the Future" is his sophomore feature documentary. He is founder and manager of NewBorn Short Film Agency, providing Film Festival Strategy, Festival Distribution and Film Sales. Dimitris Argyriou is the founder and festival director of NewBorn Short Film Festival in Berlin. He is co-founder and was Festival Director (2016-2018) of Hellas Filmbox Berlin and later was head of short film programming of the Greek Film Festival in Berlin (2018-2022). He has also been film programmer at many international film festivals, such as 3in1 Film Festival, Portugal (2019), Fest: New Directors/New Films Film Festival, Portugal (2017), Aegean Film Festival, Greece (Head of Program 2016-2019 and founder of the shorts competition program), International Short Film Festival in Berlin – Interfilm, Germany (2013 – 2016), Berlinale-Berlin International Film Festival, Germany (GM, 2014-2017) and Shortcutz Berlin, Germany (Artistic Director, 2013-2015). He was Jury Member in various Film Festivals such as World of Film International Festival Glasgow, UK (2021), Film Festival, US (2020), Shortcutz Berlin, Germany (2019), Boddinale Film Festival, Germany (2018), Short of the Year 2020&2017, Spain, Landshut Short Film Festival, Germany (2017), Balkan Beyond Borders Film Festival, Sofia, Bulgaria (2016) and Alpinale Short Film Festival, Austria (2016). He speaks Greek, English and German.
