Dreamt by Another is an allegorical take on creating with artificial intelligence and a meditation on identity, memory, and love. Interweaving passages from Pinocchio (1883), The Velveteen Rabbit (1922), Frankenstein (1818), and Borges's The Circular Ruins (1940), the film builds a single narrative about coming into existence. It extends the lineage of wooden puppets, toys, and monsters into the realm of artificial intelligence, as the latest chapter in humanity's pursuit to make the unreal come alive. Rooted in Vikki Bardot's long-standing artistic practice of exploring visual textures and dreamlike aesthetics, the film asks: What does it take to become real?

Vikki Bardot

Vikki Bardot is a multidisciplinary AI artist with a background in film and music. After studying flute and classical music history at the conservatory, she then graduated from the film school as the top student. She later worked in film distribution, acquiring award-winning indie films and attending major film festivals worldwide for many years. She has a lifelong passion for art history and she has been working with digital & AI tools since 2021. In 2022, she released some of the first examples of post-photographic AI collections. She has given a TEDx talk on artificial intelligence and art in 2023. Her debut AI short film has made its way into traditional film festivals in 2024. Bardot’s style is often influenced by the aesthetics of early photography and avant-garde cinematic movements. Her work has been exhibited in cities across the globe, including New York, Paris, London, Berlin, Rome, Barcelona, Seoul, Los Angeles, Sao Paulo, Dubai, and Miami. She recently co-produced and co-wrote Post Truth, the first feature-length AI-generated film in history that had a theatrical release.
