Laurent Aglat

Laurent Aglat is a Canadian composer, editor, filmmaker and digital artist known for blending traditional storytelling with cutting-edge technology. He obtained his PhD in music composition from Université de Montréal in 2009. He studied in Tokyo with Isao Matsushita and did a work class in Centre Acanthes with the German composer Helmut Lachenmann. He gained attention for his short film Paradis, a poetic and visually striking narrative created using Unreal Engine and MetaHuman technology. Paradis explores themes of memory, isolation, and the search for inner peace within a surreal, dreamlike world. Aglat used Unreal Engine not just as a rendering tool, but as a full creative environment, allowing him to direct and visualize the story in real-time. The use of MetaHumans gave his characters a level of realism and emotional depth uncommon in virtual productions, while preserving an artistic, slightly stylized aesthetic. Aglat’s approach with Paradis reflects his broader interest in merging cinematic language with real-time tools, challenging conventional production pipelines. His work stands at the intersection of film, interactive media, and digital performance, pushing forward the possibilities for indie creators working with virtual production. Through Paradis, Laurent Aglat has emerged as a compelling voice in the new wave of filmmakers who harness game engine technology to tell deeply human stories. He is now working on the second episode of LA CLEF, which the first episode had a lot of success on youtube.
