Roses of Romance

Germany / Romance / 00:03:12 min

ROSES OF ROMANCE is a musical shortfilm about the afro-german musician Blazey. Blazey is surrounded by a surrealistic setting in which he reflects on the repeated experience of losing himself in a labyrinth of his mind while confronting with the questions of his existence as a black, queer person. Depending on his viewpoint, the architecture appears to create a sense of harmony, depth, or confinement, while forming a symbiotic connection with his inner world's perspective. ROSES OF ROMANCE is a call to self-love and the (re)union of body, mind, and soul.

Pascal Hubrich (*1993 in Hildesheim, Germany) is an artist, filmmaker, and creative director. He studied at HBK Braunschweig, Institut Teknologi in Bandung, Indonesia, and earned a master's degree in Production Design at the Film University Babelsberg. His work exists at the intersection of art, film, and conceptual design. Hubrich questions and parodies societal beauty ideals and pop-cultural aesthetics. His art oscillates between conformity, fulfillment, and the deliberate subversion of these norms. He explores the simultaneity of provocation and perfection. His works critically engage with the aesthetics of pop culture and the construction of self-image. Moving between adaptation and parody, he exposes the contradictions within these ideals. His approach challenges conventional norms while embracing their visual language. Through this, he constantly navigates the boundary between reality and fiction.
