Ompuromo

United States / Experimental / 00:02:26 min

Ompuromo was an ancient Ohlone village, located where the San Andreas fault line enters the Pacific Ocean, just south of San Francisco. Approximately 15 meters from the shore, on the beach where the village used to be, there is a rock protruding above the water. This rock represents Ompuromo, translated as “ocean flea place”, after which the village was named. Ompuromo is a short experimental animation film, which takes inspiration from parts of the Ohlone creation story. The Ohlone creation story tells of a coyote who escaped to the top of a hill, while most of the world was destroyed by flooding. He waited for the waters to recede with an eagle and a hummingbird.
