Film maker
Leander Behal

Leander Behal is a screenwriter and director from Berlin, Germany. His films are characterized by a very specific narrative style, taking its cues from surrealism, absurdism and magical realism. Nocturnal settings, strange characters and mysterious happenings are recurring elements in his stories. As are themes of nonconformity, trauma and escapism. One of the most defining aspects of his work is his love of outsiders and his apparent aversion to the norm. If it is ordinary, it needs to be defied. But even as the world is turned upside-down and spirals into new dimensions of weirdness, the emotional authenticity of the protagonists remains intact. In fact, they reveal their true character in the face of existential crises. Leander studied film studies at the Free University of Berlin from 2016 until 2021. He is currently based in Ludwigsburg, where he studies Directing Fiction at the Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg. His latest films include "Taximan", "Automat" and the music documentary "Can You Bow?".
